RANGE RULES OF TEXAS GUN CLUB

Always follow the Texas Gun Club   S. A. F. E.  Principle.

S = SAFE DIRECTION 

Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. Never point it at yourself, a body part or anyone or anything that you are not willing to destroy.

A = ALWAYS LOADED

Always treat firearms as if they are loaded. Only you can declare a firearm safe. Never assume it’s unloaded. Physically & Visually Check.

F = FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.

E= ENVIRONMENT 

Know your target and beyond. Pay attention to your surroundings. You are responsible for your bullets.

GUNS & TARGETS BROUGHT INTO THE RANGE:

  • Firearms must remain holstered or cased until you are at the firing line. If you need to try a holster for your firearm, contact a TGC team member who will take you inside the range and clear your firearm.
  • All firearms and ammunition are subject to inspection by the range officer for cleanliness, workability and safety before entering the range.
  • Targets may be brought into the range but must be approved by the Range Officer. Numerous targets are available for a reasonable price at Texas Gun Club.

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER (RSO):

  • The RSOs are NRA Trained and Certified and are there for your safety.
  • You MUST comply with their direction at all times.
  • You may be asked to step off the range for repeated unsafe acts.
  • Noncompliance may result in a temporary suspension or ban for refusing to comply with our safety standards.
  • You may report unsafe acts to any RSO or Team Member.

SAFTEY EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING

  • Eye and hearing protection is required and must be in place prior to entering the range.
  • Safety glasses are available for a nominal fee at the check in counter or you may purchase from our inventory.
  • Hearing protection is available for rent or you may purchase from our inventory
  • Open-toe shoes ARE NOT AUTHORIZED on the range.
  • Other clothing requirements or recommendations:
  • Ball caps are recommended to protect against flying brass.
  • Shirts with collars are recommended but not required.
  • Long pants are recommended but not required.

FIRING LINE PROCEDURES:

  • KEEP FIREARMS HOLSTERED OR CASED UNTIL YOU ARE AT THE FIRING LINE!
  • Stay behind the shooting bench at all times.  
  • Do not move or reach forward of the shooting bench or extend arms past the shooting lane dividers.
  • Never bend over to pick up any dropped items. If you drop an item on the ground, raise your hand and get the attention of a RSO.
  • When sharing a firearm with another person do not pass firearms from one lane to another, leave the firearms on the bench and have the shooters switch lanes.
  • Do not pass firearms from person to person. Set firearm down on the shooting bench with muzzle/barrel pointed towards the berm, then the other person may pick up firearm, load & make ready.
  • NEVER handle firearms behind the firing line.
  • You may only fire one firearm at a time, no “Duel Wielding”.
  • Only line of sight firing is permitted. Shoot only at your assigned target.
  • FOOD, DRINKS, CHEWING TOBACCO, SNUFF OR SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE RANGE.
  • All negligent discharges or property damage must be reported to RSO staff immediately.
  • When leaving the firing line temporarily, lay the firearm with the muzzle down range and the action open.
  • Use the lane assigned to you. Do not change shooting lanes without permission of the RSO.
  • No more than THREE persons may share any one lane.
  • There may only be one person shooting in a lane at any given time. 
  • Only one person may coach at a time.
  • You may have one other person as an observer only standing outside of the lane.
  • Minimum safety stand-off distance for shotguns or rifles is 10 yards regardless of where you are shooting from.
  • Minimum safety stand-off distance from berm is 10 yards.

 MALFUNCTIONS

  • Do not leave the firing line with a firearm that has not been cleared and made safe.
  • DO NOT REMOVE JAMMED OR MALFUNCTIONING FIREARMS from the shooting range. Raise your hand or get the attention of a RSO for assistance. 
  • Shooters must load and unload their own firearms. (Raise your hand and an RSO will help if needed)
  • If a mechanical malfunction occurs, consult with the Range Officer. If you are unsure, simply set the firearm down on the bench and step away. 
  • If you pull the trigger and nothing happens, wait a few seconds and cycle the firearm. If you are in doubt, raise your hand and an RSO will assist you.

TACTICAL TRAINING

  • Texas Gun Club recognizes the need to train from a holster. However, safety is paramount. As we do not know the skill of each individual, we require that you demonstrate adequate firearms skills prior to being allowed to conduct holster work.
  • Only approved, strong or shooting hand side law enforcement type belt or thigh holsters are permitted.
  • You must have approval prior to conducting any holster work at Texas Gun Club.

COMPLETION OF SHOOTING SESSION

  • Clear your firearm and place it in the case.
  • All firearms must be cased or holstered before leaving the firing line.

DAMAGE OR VANDALISM

  • You are financially responsible for any damage to lights, baffles, carriers or any other property or equipment.
  • If it is determined that the damage was intentional, you may be subject to suspension, eviction and/or civil or criminal prosecution.
  • Firing at objects other than approved targets is strictly prohibited. Only targets authorized by the Range Officer will be permitted.
  • Guest will be held accountable for any damage and must pay for any damage you cause including replacement and installation charges. 

DAMAGE OR VANDALISM

  • Firing at objects other than approved targets is strictly prohibited. Only targets authorized by the Range Officer will be permitted.
  • Guest will be held accountable for any damage and must pay for any damage you cause including replacement and installation charges.

PERMISSABLE FIREARMS:

  • Most handguns and rifles up to .223/5.56 and 2700 fps. (Please call ahead if you have a question)
  • Full automatic firearms are available for rent and allowed at the discretion of the Range Safety Team.
  • NFA firearms and accessories are permitted so long as they comply with all local, state and federal laws.
  • You must be able to produce NFA paperwork if requested.

RIFLE SUITES (50 YARD RANGE)

  • We prefer that rifles are used on the 50-yard range however, it is permissible to shoot any caliber handgun. 
  • Rifles calibers up to 2700 feet per second are permitted on the rifle range.
  • Other high caliber rifles will be permitted only during approve times or with the approval of the Range Master, Chief Range Safety Officer or General Manager.
  • Please call ahead if you have questions. We will work to schedule a time for you to shoot.
  • Black Powder / Muzzle Loaders are not permitted.
  • Shotguns are permitted but only #2 shot and below. (.00 or slug is preferred)
  • All air guns and BB guns are allowed with permission with permission of the Range Officer.
  • For firearms not mentioned here, check with the Range Team prior to use on the range.

PERMISSABLE AMMUNITION:

  • Ammunition must be approved by the Sporting Arms and Ammunitions Manufacturer’s Institute (SAAMI).
  • Reloaded ammunition is permitted if approved by the Range Master or General Manager.
  • Brass and aluminum cased ammunition is fine.  NO STEEL.
  • If you are renting a firearm from us then you may only use ammunition you purchased from us in that firearm.  
  • No personal ammunition or reloads may be used in rental firearms.
  • While hollow point ammunition is acceptable
  • For Shotguns, only slugs and #4 Buck Shot or larger may be fired.  Bird Shot is not authorized, it’s just too messy!

PROHIBITED AMMUNITION

  • STEEL JACKETED, STEEL SHOT OR STEEL CORE BULLETS ARE NOT PERMITTED. PLEASE DO NOT SHOOT THEM ON OUR RANGE. THEY DO CAUSE DAMAGE TO OUR EQUIPMENT.
  • Tracer, incendiary, gas or explosive ammunition in NEVER permitted.

 SHOOTERS AND VISITORS:

  • No person is allowed inside the shooting bays unless they have a signed waiver of liability on file and have watched the range safety video.
  • Appropriate dress is required at all times.
  • We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
  • You may not consume alcohol prior to shooting at Texas Gun Club. Persons smelling of alcohol or who are suspected of being impaired will not be allowed on the range. They may be asked to leave if they are a danger to themselves, others, or causing a disturbance.

 WAIVER OF LIABILITY REQUIRED

  • All persons utilizing the range are required to receive, understand and sign the rules, regulations and disclaimer and waiver of liability notice.
  • Guest who are only observing must also sign the waiver prior to entering the range.
  • Guest under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign the waiver and accept liability on their behalf.

 AGE RESTRICTIONS:

  • Minors under the age of seven (7) are not allowed on a live-fire range. 
  • Minors who are at least seven (7) years of age and not yet twelve (12) years of age MUST be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian in order to enter a live fire range.
  • Minors who are at least 12 years of age may be accompanied by any responsible adult so long as the responsible adult is:
    • At least 21 years of age or older and,
    • Identified in writing by the legal parent or guardian and,
    • Not a "prohibited person", as the term pertains to legal possession of firearms and,
    • The parent or guardian has signed the Texas Gun Club Waiver of Liability which includes an emergency authorization for medical treatment.
  • You must be twenty-one (21) years of age to rent a firearm or a shooting lane by yourself.
  • Active Duty Military Members at least 18 years of age may rent a lane without another responsible adult being present. (Active Duty Identification is required)
  • A person who is 'age of majority', (18 years or older) may accompany, as a second or third shooter, ANY responsible person who is at least 21 years of age so long as the responsible person is not a 'Prohibited Person'.
  • Minors who are at least 11 years of age may be accompanied by any responsible adult so long as the responsible adult is:
    • At least 21 years of age or older and,
    • Identified in writing by the legal parent or guardian and,
    • Not a "prohibited person", as the term pertains to legal possession of firearms and,
    • The parent or guardian has signed the Texas Gun Club Waiver of Liability which includes an emergency authorization for medical treatment.
  • The parent, legal guardian or responsible adult shall act as a coach, and MUST remain with the minor(s) at all times while the minor(s) is utilizes the range. 

BRASS RETRIEVAL:

  • All range brass is to be pushed forward periodically.
  • Only TGC range personnel may collect brass or spent shell casings from the range floor.
  • Casings from revolvers, bolt action, or single shot firearms may be collected from the chamber or cylinder.
  • You may not pick up brass that has fallen on the ground. This is a safety issue.
  • Brass that falls on your shooting bench is yours if you want it.
  • Brass catching devices are allowed to be affixed to the firearm. Texas Gun Club may have brass catchers available for use. Please ask the check in staff.
  • If you want to keep brass, you must declare the number of rounds you are firing and the type of ammunition.
  • Our range team will provide you with a bag of brass casings in the appropriate caliber.
  • Brass may or may not be of the same manufacturer or quality as the brass expended.
  • We cannot guarantee that you will receive the same brand or quality of brass returned to you. This is a courtesy only.
